In a world rich with the unknown and the unseen, the role of a medium is both fascinating and, from my years of professional experience, profoundly misunderstood. Even today, I don't know why I am still so surprised, but many people still conjure up images of crystal balls, shadowy figures, ominous lifestyles, and mysterious rituals when they think of mediums. It is actually quite funny to me.
The truth is, being a medium is about more than theatrics; it is a profound commitment to connecting with the spiritual realm to serve as a bridge between worlds—we exist at the fascinating intersection of the physical and spiritual realms.
There is an intricate relationship between a medium's personal experiences, our perception of our abilities, and our connection to the spiritual realm. All these elements intertwine to shape how we interpret and communicate messages from the other side. Yes, it is true. Our work also relies on our personal bias, the clarity of the impressions we receive and the unique way that the spirit world works with each of. Yet what is often not considered is that the potentials of our connections can be greatly influenced (and hindered) by the beliefs we hold and the paradigms operating behind the scenes.
These paradigms are not merely abstract concepts; they are deeply rooted in the nuances of our individual journey, reflecting both the challenges and triumphs we've encountered along the way. Understanding the beliefs that shape our consciousness is essential to unlocking our potential as mediums and ensuring we are channels of healing and guidance in the best possible way for others.
5 barriers that many mediums face
Our beliefs act as filters through which we perceive our experiences, influencing our openness to the wisdom of the spirit world. Limiting beliefs—stemming from societal conditioning, personal fears, or negative experiences—can create barriers to spiritual communication.
For example, doubting our abilities may lead to struggles in interpreting messages or reluctance to share them for fear of judgment. In contrast, embracing empowering beliefs, such as trusting what we receive and recognizing our inherent connection to the universe, enables us to engage fully with the spiritual realm.
As mediums, the paradigms we hold about ourselves and the spiritual world greatly affect our connection to the other side. Unfortunately, many carry beliefs that negatively impact their practice, often rooted in societal influences or past experiences. An environment that dismisses spiritual beliefs can block access to higher states of consciousness, while fear of judgment and self-doubt further inhibit our ability to connect with spirit.
Here’s a list of 10 unhealthy beliefs that I have frequently encountered among the majority of mediums I’ve mentored. This only reinforces the idea that these beliefs are less about our individual perspectives and more about unhealthy paradigms operating subtly in the background.
1. Doubting Abilities: Many mediums struggle with feelings of inadequacy, questioning whether they are truly gifted or capable of connecting with spirit, which can lead to insecurities.
When mediums doubt their abilities, it creates a low vibrational energy around their practice. This uncertainty can lead to blockages in energy flow, making it difficult for them to connect authentically with the spirit world. Doubt can cultivate a hesitance to trust received impressions, thus weakening the clarity and strength of spiritual messages.
2. Fear of Judgment: A common concern among mediums is the worry of how others perceive their work. This fear can prevent full and authentic expression of their spiritual connections.
This fear can create protective, guarded energy that stifles open communication. When mediums are preoccupied with how others might perceive them, fear of being rejected or ridiculed, or fear of being judged for their skill set, they might hold back on sharing what they receive, leading to incomplete or distorted messages. The energy of their connection becomes clouded, preventing genuine connection with spirit.
3. Viewing the Spirit World as Ominous: Some mediums may believe that the spirit world is filled with negative or malevolent energies, causing them to worry that communicating with spirits will invite negativity into their lives.
This can cause them to hesitate in fully embracing their gifts, since it fosters fear and apprehension, ultimately hindering their ability to connect with the loving guidance offered from the other side. Holding onto fears about negative energies can cause mediums to emit a frantic or defensive energy, which may hinder their overall connection with spirit. This fear can create barriers that prevent them from accessing higher vibrational frequencies and messages of love and healing.
4. Sense of Responsibility for Others' Healing: As mediums, we often feel a deep sense of obligation to assist others in their healing. This can create significant pressure to "get it right," as there is a belief that our effectiveness directly influences the healing journey of our clients.
However, when mediums feel overly responsible for the healing of others, they may become energetically drained or burdened. This heavy sense of obligation can create a weighty energy that not only affects their well-being but also their ability to channel clear and uplifting messages, as they might become more focused on their clients' needs than on the guidance from spirit.
5. Limiting Definitions of Success: Many mediums often associate the success of their sessions with external validation from their sitters, using this feedback to boost their confidence and define their achievements, rather than focusing on personal growth and the quality of their connections.
When mediums equate success with external validation, their energy can become transactional rather than relational. This focus on outcomes can lead to impatience and frustration, creating a dissonance that affects their ability to resonate with the caring and compassionate energy of the spirit world.
Addressing these unhealthy beliefs and their energetic implications can foster a more open, authentic, and powerful mediumship practice!
