Bittersweet Holidays

The holiday season is frequently painted with the colors of joy, celebration, and togetherness. It's a time when families gather, traditions are honoured, and the spirit of giving fills the air. But for so many people (myself included) beneath all the merriment lies an emotional complexity—a mix of feelings that deserve acknowledgment and understanding.

I've been in a contemplative space lately, reflecting on the people in my life—the ones I cherish, those I've lost, friendships that have faded, and the individuals who, because of my work as a medium, have chosen to distance themselves from me. (It's funny how I still find myself wishing they were part of my life). This time of year evokes a profound mix of emotions, wrapping joy and sorrow in a big bow that is both beautiful and bittersweet.

Maybe it comes with age, or perhaps all the readings I have done over the years, but I've become almost obsessed with my own mortality and the fleeting nature of life. The holidays have become a poignant reminder that time is precious and that our relationships, whether rooted in the past or present, the good ones, and the not-so-great ones all serve our higher purpose.

They teach us valuable lessons about love, forgiveness, and the complexities of our human condition—no matter how fleeting or challenging, shapes us in some way, contributing to our understanding of what it means to be truly alive.

The holidays remind me that the essence of our soul's journey lies not only in the company we keep but also in the lessons we learn from our experiences, the joy and the pain. This time of year requires embracing both. But then again, its all part of the light and dark of being human.

Nurturing our own spirits through the holidays, can make it a bit easier to flow with the magic and rise above the sorrow. Here are a few things that can make all the difference in fostering a positive and uplifting spirit during this season.

Meditation and Prayerfulness

Dedicating time each day to meditation and prayerfulness can bring a sense of calm and clarity to your mind, helping you alleviate stress and deepen your connection with your inner self. This sacred practice creates a tranquil space for reflection on your experiences and intentions, inviting you to embrace the spirit of the holidays with a heart full of awareness, gratitude, and divine connection. Through meditation and prayer, you open yourself to guidance and support from your angels and loved ones that is sure to enliven you.

Rituals and Ceremonies

Creating your own holiday rituals can enhance your experience of the season by deepening connections to personal beliefs, family traditions, and community. You might consider lighting candles to symbolize warmth and intention, set up a small altar with meaningful items for reflection, and honour your ancestors through stories or family recipes.

Fresh Air and Nature Walks

Taking time to step outside and enjoy the beauty of nature can rejuvenate your spirit and provide perspective during the busy holiday season. Whether it’s a brisk walk through a local park, hiking in the woods, or simply sitting in your backyard, reconnecting with Mother Earth can inspire feelings of hope and renewal as you navigate the emotions that come with this time of year.

I encourage you to embrace the bittersweet moments.... they are a testament to your resilience and capacity for love. Each experience, whether uplifting or challenging, contributes to your understanding of worthiness—a worthiness that is not defined by circumstances but rather by your spirit's capacity to love deeply and authentically.

A gentle reminder that love is the light that guides us through every struggle and triumph. It is the love we show ourselves in the tough moments that ultimately empowers us to rise again.  May love be your guiding star, and may you find peace and joy within the embrace of the holiday season. Happy holidays!
