Let me confess something that will make the overachievers in the room feel seen— I used to crave official validation. Degrees. Certifications. Someone saying, “Yep. This is real.” or "Yes. You are enough." Meanwhile, my body was already giving me the most inconvenient credential of all—a relentless, low-grade restless hum under my skin.
You know the one. That electric, “on” feeling. The kind that doesn’t leave, even when you’ve done the breathwork, drank the water, journaled like it’s your part-time job, and told yourself you’re fine. Clinically, it gets labelled high-functioning anxiety. Spiritually, people toss out “you’re just ungrounded” like it’s a casual diagnosis.
But for me—and for so many leaders, coaches, and gifted women I mentor—it was neither of those.
It was energetic friction. A non-physical influx hitting an untuned system.
As a medium, you serve as a conduit between the physical and non-physical worlds. That means your nervous system isn’t just “along for the ride.” It’s the biological receiver. The instrument. And when someone in the spirit world turns up the signal, your body feels it first.
You’re not failing at staying grounded. You’re not failing at staying calm. It's not even a sign that your doomed. The 'restless hum' is often your system acclimating. It’s the body catching up to hold the connection with the spirit world.
And yes—nervous system regulation is the missing link. Not to diminish the connection, but to expand your capacity to receive.
That’s the difference between surviving your gifts… and leading with them.

The Physics of Mediumship (a.k.a. why your body is involved whether you like it or not)
The reality of spiritual communication is profoundly physical. Temperature shifts. Pressure in the chest. Ringing in the ears. A sudden wave of emotion that isn’t yours. The sense of someone “stepping close” behind your left shoulder when no one is there. Heightened perception isn’t a vibe—it’s sensory and energetic awareness moving through an actual human system.
And your nervous system is the receiver that translates that contact into experience—it is the operating system that decides whether contact from the spirit world lands as:
- clarity and clean connection, or
- static, overwhelm, and that “why do I have a 'restless hum' like a phone on silent?” feeling.
When your nervous system is overwhelmed contact from the spirit world meets density. And it's that meeting point often gets labelled “high-functioning anxiety.” But a lot of the time, it’s energetic friction— someone on the other side is chatting with you and your system is trying to process that influx with old safety settings.
This is where “creating the container to hold the light” stops being a pretty line and becomes a leadership practice.
A container is not just calm. It’s capacity. It’s steadiness. It’s the ability to stay anchored safely in the body while your interacting fully with the spirit world.
The Trinity: Spirit, Mind, and Body
We start with Spirit because it’s truth. Your Spirit is already whole. It’s high-frequency software. Source-level truth. It doesn’t need fixing, and it doesn’t need to “earn” access. Communicating with the spirit world is natural to you.
Then we go to the Mind—because the mind is where the ghosts in the machine live. Inherited beliefs. Energetic cobwebs. Subconscious agreements like:
- “If I see too much, I’ll lose people.”
- “If I feel spirit, I’ll get overwhelmed.”
- “If I’m powerful, it won’t be safe.”
This is where “spiritual blocks” often show up—but let’s call them what they usually are: protective mechanisms. A biological NO. Not a personal failure. Not a lack of worthiness. A system that learned, intelligently, how to keep you safe.
And then we land in the Body—the final manifestor. If the body doesn’t feel safe, it will override the clarity of your connection. I'm not saying you won't still be able to have those beautiful interactions with the spirit world, I'm just pointing out that without regulation, with that "hum" in your system, your access to clear, grounded communication becomes muddled. Your energetic awareness may be there, but without the body’s sense of safety, it’s like trying to tune into a radio with static—distracted, unfocused, and easily overwhelmed in the presence of love from the other side.
Learning to regulate your nervous system means building the capacity so you can easily ground the energetic impressions into words with certainty. This is where mediumship gets real. Because when your body becomes a steady receiver, you stop interacting with the spirit world under pressure, which means communication gets turned up a few notches.
Static in the Veil (and why it feels like “anxiety”)
When your nervous system is dysregulated, it adds static to the veil. Think WiFi to the divine—your connection is still there but you're contacting the spirit world through a stressed system. It's like you’re standing in the basement beside the furnace, wondering why your Zoom call is glitching.
The veil doesn’t just feel thin—it feels dense. Heavy. Like you’re trying to listen through a wall. That density makes spiritual communication harder to sustain, and it can make what you are receiving feel loud but unclear.
And yes, sweet friend, you can still connect to the spirit world while dysregulated—many mediums do. But it comes at a cost:
- you’re drained after sessions
- you’re “spiritually hungover”
- you feel raw, wired, or emotionally scraped open
- your sleep gets weird
- your body feels like it ran a marathon while you were sitting still
Why? Because you’re using your own vital life force to manage the connection. You’re compensating with a system that doesn’t yet feel safe enough. This is where our inner mastery comes in—clearing biological noise so you can discern signal from static.
When you’re anchored safely in the body, the communication becomes cleaner. Your connection is heightened, but it’s not hijacking you. You stop being “at the mercy” of your gifts and start leading life with them.

When it comes to spiritual communication, we need to move at the speed of the nervous system, not the ego. Practicing mediumship is not just in 'how to communicate with the spirit world' its' about learning to create a container that is safe, grounded, connected, and spacious enough so it can hold more light.
Creating the container to hold the light looks like:
- regulating before (and after) connections, not just during
- learning how the spirit world communicates uniquely with you
- strengthening your capacity so the hum becomes bandwidth
- dissolving spiritual blocks (fears, limiting beliefs, inherited conditioning) that are actually the biological NOs
That’s the work. And it changes everything.
An Invitation
If you’re tired of the 'restless hum'—tired of feeling like your gifts come with a side of nervous-system chaos—I want to invite you into a different relationship with your sensitivity.
Not “manage it.” Master it. Integrate it. Let it make you a clearer channel.
Because mediumship isn’t just a mystical skill. It’s a nervous system skill. It’s energy awareness, trained into steadiness—so you can serve as a clean conduit between the physical and non-physical without paying for it with your health.
If you want support refining your connection and strengthening the vessel that holds it, I invite you to explore the Academy of Spirit and Soul—or simply come gather with us in the BW Global community when the timing feels right. No pressure. Just an open door.
